Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman - book review

Hello guys! Christmas may have passed but Blogmas is still going strong till Dec 31st! For today's post I have a review I had promised was coming this time of year! Well, you probably saw it in the title but yes, it is Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman!!!

This is the first book I read by Gaiman and I really enjoyed it! As I love Scandinavian mythology, this book makes the perfect companion to a cold winter night!

I learned so many fun stuff that I didn't know about the gods of Asgard and Thor which is my favorite, of course!!! It was so much fun to learn more about Loki too! I love Loki even though he can be a really pain in the a$$!!

The relationships between the gods are unique and in some cases hilarious!!! I laughed so many times reading this book!!! Such a cute read!

I was really interested to learn about Ragnarok and what would happen in the end and I was satisfied to read about it!

The writing style was really simple and more in the children's category but I really enjoyed it! It was like reading a fairy tale!
I really want to read the other famous books by Neil Gaiman!!! I hope in 2019 I will find the time!!!

This book was also nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards under the category of fantasy in 2017!

I rated this book with 4 stars!

Some of my favorite quotes were:

“Because,” said Thor, “when something goes wrong, the first thing I always think is, it is Loki’s fault. It saves a lot of time.”

“Of course it was Loki. It's always Loki.”

“The Norse myths are the myths of a chilly place, with long, long winter nights and endless summer days, myths of a people who did not entirely trust or even like their gods, although they respected and feared them.”

“There were things Thor did when something went wrong. The first thing he did was ask himself if what had happened was Loki’s fault. Thor pondered. He did not believe that even Loki would have dared to steal his hammer. So he did the next thing he did when something went wrong, and he went to ask Loki for advice.”

Check also the summary on Goodreads:

Neil Gaiman, long inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction, presents a bravura rendition of the Norse gods and their world from their origin though their upheaval in Ragnarok.
In Norse Mythology, Gaiman stays true to the myths in envisioning the major Norse pantheon: Odin, the highest of the high, wise, daring, and cunning; Thor, Odin’s son, incredibly strong yet not the wisest of gods; and Loki—son of a giant—blood brother to Odin and a trickster and unsurpassable manipulator.
Gaiman fashions these primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds and delves into the exploits of deities, dwarfs, and giants. Through Gaiman’s deft and witty prose, these gods emerge with their fiercely competitive natures, their susceptibility to being duped and to duping others, and their tendency to let passion ignite their actions, making these long-ago myths breathe pungent life again.

See you next time!
