Outlander #2 - Dragonfly In Amber book+tv series review

If you have read a couple of my posts you may already know my obsession about Outlander!  Or Jamie Fraser! Or Scotland in general!! Last month I read the second book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, Dragonfly in Amber, and it's time to share it with you! You can also read about the first book here!

You are probably familiar with the tv series Outlander on starz. Season 3 aired yesterday!!! 🎆🎇🎆🎉🎊🎆 The first book refers to the first season and Dragonfly In Amber to the second! It is the only time that I prefer watching the series prior to reading so that I won't complete the whole series way too soon and second, because it is SOOOO GOOD!!! The actors are amazing, the landscape awesome and the whole production is perfect! I want to just "save" this experience and make it longer and not spoil the fun of some months in a couple of weeks!

In case you haven't read or watched it let me explain a bit of the plot...!
In the start of Dragonfly in Amber (the book), Claire is in Inverness, the year of 1968, with her twenty-year-old daughter, Brianna. She visits Roger Wakefield, the Reverend's adopted son who was just a small child when Claire first visited Inverness. Being there, her past comes to haunt her and at some point it is time for Brianna (and Roger) to learn the truth. Claire tells her story and we also get to see what happened when she arrived with Jamie in France to try and stop the rebellion, till the final battle of Culloden. There are a ton of events taking place, the plot is just amazing with many twists and turns and schemes and betrayals... Diana's writing style is  completely captivating and even though it is 963 pages long I read it quicker than I thought!

As for the tv series, there are some differences between the series and the book but nothing too different to completely change the book as it happens in shadowhunters for example! Actually, it is one of the most accurate book to series adaptations!

The costumes and the scenery are a masterpiece! They have done an amazing job! I am so thrilled for season 3! I am going to watch the first episode tonight with some candles and a glass of wine! 🍷

I feel so anxious! I just re-watched both seasons one and two and felt once again my heart break! I was crying so much in the season 2 finale... again!!! I have been told that Voyager is one of the most loved books in the series and my expectations are really high! Stay tuned for a post about the first episode.... soon!

I of course rated this book with 5 out of 5 stars!

Some of my favorite quotes are the following:

“You are mine, always, if ye will it or no, if ye want me or nay. Mine, and I willna let ye go”

“I will find you," he whispered in my ear. "I promise. If I must endure two hundred years of purgatory, two hundred years without you - then that is my punishment, which I have earned for my crimes. For I have lied, and killed, and stolen; betrayed and broken trust. But there is the one thing that shall lie in the balance. When I shall stand before God, I shall have one thing to say, to weigh against the rest."His voice dropped, nearly to a whisper, and his arms tightened around me.Lord, ye gave me a rare woman, and God! I loved her well.”

“...still I dinna expect anything to happen to me. But if it should...If it does, then I want there to be a place for you; I want someone for you to go to if I am...not there to care for you. If it canna be me, then I would have it be a man who loves you.”

“Tell him I hate him to his guts and the marrow of his bones!”

“You cannot save the world, but you might save the man in front of you, if you work fast enough.”

Do you watch Outlander?
See you soon,
xoxo Joan
